Doing Dutch For A Day
It's already been said that I have the coolest Dutch buddy in all of the Netherlands, but in case you need further convincing...
Anna planned a day trip for the two of us to go explore the Dutch town of Delft, then head to her hometown of Naaldwijk, where I would get to meet her family, see her house and have a nice, home cooked meal. Um, down.
We had a full day of trains, buses, stairs, family and food. And by food, I mean FOOD. Anna surprised me on the train ride to Delft with not one, but TWO, bags of stroopwafels and orange juice. Awwhh. I'll estimate my intake at about 4 total throughout the day. Whoops.
Then, we picked up dessert on our way to dinner; a popular yogurt-like substance called vla and an apple crumb pastry thing that jumped into my arms. Double whoops.
Top that off with two helpings of the unbelievably good lasagna that her Dad made, and I was pretty sure I was about to leave this Earth and become my own Moon-sized satellite. Bye world!
All in all, the day was a cross between culture and comfort. It was nice to just hang out on the couch of a new friend, watching TV and complaining about how full we were. To be honest, my days at home don't look that much different. I guess an ocean of separation doesn't change that much, after all.
